This detail illustrates the connection of wall girts to both the rigid frame column and portal frame column at a portal opening, tied together with a 4" zee.
A wall girt connects to the rigid frame column on one side of the opening, and a welded clip on the column, shop-welded ahead of time, provides the girt's attachment point using (4) 1/2" x 1-1/4" A307 bolts with (8) washers, two washers per bolt.
A second wall girt connects to the portal frame column on the opposite side of the opening, using the same (4) 1/2" x 1-1/4" A307 bolts with (8) washers.
A 4" zee spans between the rigid frame column and portal frame column, fastened using member screw SDS with pre-drilled holes as required, tying the two columns together across the portal opening.
