This detail illustrates the connection of roof purlins to a rigid frame rafter, including the installation of rafter flange braces and rake angles along the roof edge.
The roof purlins are zee-shaped members that span between rigid frame rafters to support the roof panels. Each purlin connects to the rafter using (2) 1/2" x 1-1/4" A307 bolts with (4) washers—one washer on each side of each bolt.
Rafter flange braces are installed at designated purlin locations to provide lateral stability to the rigid frame rafter's compression flange. These braces connect from the purlin to a welded flange brace clip on the rafter using (2) 1/2" x 1-1/4" A325 bolts with (4) washers. Note the A325 structural-grade hardware for flange brace connections due to their critical bracing function. Refer to your framing plans to identify which purlins require flange braces.
At the roof edge, a rake angle is installed along the top of the purlins to provide a finished edge and support for the roof panel termination. The rake angle is secured to each purlin using (1) member screw SDS in roof color, providing a clean, color-matched appearance at the building's roof perimeter.
