This detail illustrates the connection of a cee-shaped endwall column to an endwall rafter. This connection occurs at the top of the endwall columns where they meet the sloped endwall rafter that follows the roof pitch.
The endwall rafter has a welded clip attached to the flange, which provides the connection point for the endwall column. The cee column is positioned with its web facing the welded clip and secured using (4) 1/2" x 1-1/4" A325 bolts with (8) washers—one washer on each side of each bolt. Note that A325 structural-grade bolts are specified for this connection rather than A307 bolts, indicating a higher-strength requirement at this location.
When installing, ensure the endwall column is plumb and properly aligned with the welded clip before tightening all bolts. This connection transfers roof loads from the endwall rafter down through the columns to the foundation.
