Q2-1

This detail illustrates the installation of a diagonal bracing pad (BC-50) to the web of an endwall cee column. The bracing pad provides a connection point for cable or rod bracing used to stabilize the building against lateral loads. A similar connection method applies when attaching to a rafter.

The detail includes step-by-step installation instructions:

Step 1: Line up the brace pad with the pre-existing hole punches in the column web. The pad features a slotted hole in the center for the cable brace and multiple round holes around the perimeter for bolted attachment.

Step 2: Bolt the brace pad to the column using (4) 1/2" A307 bolts through the pre-punched holes. This secures the pad firmly against the column web.

Step 3: Field cut out the slot in the column web, using the brace pad slot as a template. This creates the opening through which the cable brace will pass.

Step 4: Install the cable brace as normal, threading it through the slotted opening. Leave the brace pad installed along with the 1/2" A307 bolts—the pad remains a permanent part of the connection and helps distribute the bracing loads across the column web.

This connection method allows for proper alignment and ensures the cable brace can be tensioned without damaging the column.
